What is the normal blood pressure by age?

     Everyone is talking about healthy blood pressure!

    This is because maintaining optimal blood pressure is essential to reduce the risk of many serious health problems like heart attack and stroke.

    The blood pressure reading is an indicator of a person's heart health. It tells you about the force that blood puts on the walls of the blood vessels as the heart pumps blood.

    People with high BP are considered to be the high-risk group for developing heart-related problems.

    Low BP is considered as a sign of good health. But low blood pressure caused by severe infections and other causes can lead to compromised blood flow to the organs.

    The upper number in the reading is systolic, and the lower number is the diastolic pressure.

    Numbers greater than the ideal range indicate that your heart is working too hard to pump blood to the rest of your body.

    What is the ideal range?                                   

    The normal range of blood pressure shows the systolic (top number) between 90 and less than 120 and diastolic ( Bottom Number) between 60 and always less than 80.

    So in short, a normal reading would be any blood pressure below 120/80 mm Hg and above 90/60 mm Hg in an adult.                            

    But lower blood pressure is common amongst athletes and young people.

    A person with elevated blood pressure at times is not yet hypertensive and can take steps to prevent the occurrence of hypertension.

     

    How to keep BP under check?

    Some small changes in lifestyle and daily routines can improve the condition marginally. There are many ways to prevent hypertension or high blood pressure, like:

    1. Following a healthy diet plan which includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and balanced amount of carbs.
    2. Doing cardio workouts like walking, cycling or running regularly.
    3. Stop smoking.
    4. Control of alcohol consumption.
    5. Reducing sodium intake.
    6. Managing diabetes.
    7. Reducing body weight.
    8. Avoid stress and pressure building situations.                            

    It is always advised to get medical attention to prevent serious complications if someone is showing symptoms of severe hypertension.

    Regularly checking your blood pressure is the key to understanding the variations and taking controlling measures at the right time. It can be monitored by regular blood pressure readings at the clinic or home.
